Forever Alta
Forever Alta | 30”x 19” | Oil on Canvas
Thirty years ago the skier in this painting was surprised to discover a picture of himself in a popular skiing magazine. The image referenced for this painting was a two page spread at the center of Skiing magazine’s September 1994 issue.
Some photographers at Utah’s Alta Ski Resort had noticed this man’s skill as a skier and asked if he would like to ski with them. He went with them for the joy of skiing, but didn’t expect them to take pictures of him.
After discovering the centerfold, his wife had the two-page image framed, and they have enjoyed having it hanging on their wall for all this time.
Now at what one might call a 30 year anniversary of a delightful experience, she decided to have a somewhat larger painting made of the image. This is where I came into the story.
This time, the main lettering would remain in the scene, but not go across her husband, instead it was placed lower down. The page numbers, magazine ‘s name, and issue information would remain along the bottom edge to keep important context of the timing and significance.
They both were thrilled with the painting, and it was fun for me to be involved in something so meaningful to them.
