Little Oxfords (greeting card)

A classic shoe, seemingly from another time, and yet still available. Working with a painting student, teaching her about black to white values, I painted the shoe on the left as a demonstration. Later, after the student was gone I painted the second shoe into this little painting.

The actual shoes were worn by my eldest son when he was a small boy, he’s now more than 37 years old.

Simple black and white paintings can be quite beautiful. Again I am reminded that values do all the structural work while color tends to get all the credit.
