Poseidon's Storm (greeting card)
Poseidon's Storm | 7”x 5” | Greeting Card
The translucent nature of glass and its capacity for the refraction of light, and the distortion of objects seen through it, or reflected off it, can be both stunning and compelling. All of these visual aspects are present in this unique marble, and multiplied by the wave of color and the intriguing micro repetitions in the many bubble “imperfections”.
The colors and abstract shapes seem to dance about in a frolicking way that allow us to be drawn in by both the enchanted “realism” of the glass, and the playful application of the paint, which holds its own fascination when viewed closer up.Glass spheres are particularly captivating as they turn the world we see through them upside down. And the whole idea of marbles is fun and joyous for those of us who played with them when we were children.
The whole process of thinking through and creating this painting has been a pleasure for me, and I will be doing a series of like paintings with other beautiful and pleasing marbles.
