Snowbasin
Oil On Canvas | 96" × 64" | $80,000 | Available
Snowbasin stands among the world's premier ski resorts and has earned the distinction of being ranked number one in the United States for two consecutive years. In 2026, this remarkable mountain will celebrate its 85th anniversary–an occasion rich with history, pride, and achievement.
It was here that the downhill races of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games thundered down the slopes, etching Snowbasin permanently into the global story of alpine sport. Today, the mountain continues to define life in Ogden Valley. Many homes are thoughtfully positioned to take full advantage of sweeping views of this majestic landscape, where recreation and reverence for nature exist year-round.
In composing this painting, I allowed myself the quiet liberties of an artist. The Barn was shifted slightly to the left, the bush nudged to the right, and a stand of stately trees–originally outside the left frame–invited into the scene on the right. Every element is true to the valley; they’ve simply been rearranged in service of balance, harmony, and story.
Like many who call this valley home, I hold a deep affection for its open spaces and natural beauty. There is an understandable desire to slow the pace of development and preserve what makes this place so special. In this painting, I indulge that wish by gently painting out a number of homes from the foothills, allowing the land to breathe as it once did.
Ah, how mighty the brush can be–quietly preserving the spirit, scale, and splendor of Snowbasin, if only on canvas, in this grand work of art.
