Swimming Lessons
Oil On Canvas | 48" × 30" | $32699-SOLD
Blue sky, sunshine, and swimming lessons... a perfect day.
Boys are naturally off in their own imaginative worlds. Who but a boy could be that happy about a worm? On the other hand, girls are often more patient, keenly aware, and present. Notice how the girl about to get onto the diving board does not appear convinced she will survive this deep water experience.
Kids are great! It’s fun to do paintings of them just being themselves.
The actual scene I worked from had thick, dark-green trees and no blue sky. There was tall chain link fencing and large, unattractive pool rule signs. Adding the blue sky and more colorful trees required a change to the reflection in the wet cement as well. There were also alterations made to some of the children, including the addition of the worm.
My daughter is the one wearing the goggles.I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.
The original painting is part of a private collection in Park City, UT.
