Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons | 48”x 30” | Oil on Canvas

Blue sky, sunshine, and swimming lessons... a perfect day.
Who but a boy could be that happy about a worm. Boys are naturally off in their own imaginative worlds while the often more patient girls are keenly aware and present. See how the girl about to get onto the diving board does not appear to be convinced she will survive this deep water experience.

Kids are great! It’s fun to do paintings of them just being themselves.

The scene actually had thick dark green trees and no blue sky, tall chainlink fencing and large pool rule signs. Changing these elements required a change to the reflection in the wet cement as well. There were also some alterations made to some of the children, including the addition of the worm.

My daughter is wearing the goggles. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.

The original painting is part of a private collection in Park City, UT.
